Al-Muneen Peace Initiative

Al-Muneen Peace Initiative

The Al-Muneen Peace Initiative is one of the key community-based interventions implemented by Rawafid Foundation for Sustainable Development (RSD) in Al-Wadi District, Marib, with support from Mareb Dam Foundation for Social Development. The initiative was launched in response to a growing community dispute between two groups of displaced families in Al-Muneen caused by unequal access to water from the main water tank, which resulted in tensions and recurring conflicts between the households.

To address the root of the problem, the initiative introduced a technical and sustainable solution by upgrading the water system. This included expanding the water pipeline from 1 inch to 2 inches and extending a 500-meter network to ensure fair and balanced water distribution to all families—without the need for an electric pump. This intervention significantly improved water flow, reduced pressure on both communities, and contributed to a more stable and peaceful environment.

In addition to the engineering component, the initiative facilitated community dialogue sessions with local committees and stakeholders to rebuild trust, promote understanding, and agree on fair usage mechanisms for the shared water resource. The initiative also received strong support from local authorities, the Executive Unit for IDP Camps, and community leaders, who played an essential role in enabling and facilitating field activities.

As a result, the Al-Muneen Peace Initiative successfully achieved greater social stability, improved living conditions for displaced families, and strengthened collaboration between the host community and IDPs. It now stands as a model of effective grassroots peacebuilding and sustainable resource management in conflict-affected areas.
