High-achieving students in Al-Jawf and Marib face numerous challenges that limit their access to international scholarships. These challenges include common application errors on platforms offered by countries such as Hungary, Russia, and China, as well as limited awareness of the Ministry of Higher Education’s procedures, timelines, and exam requirements.
In response, the “Empowering Top Students for International Scholarships and Cultural Exchange” program was launched to equip outstanding students with the academic, administrative, and practical skills needed to compete effectively at the international level.
The program provides a comprehensive support system that includes scholarship guidance, technical assistance during applications, exam preparation, and continuous follow-up with the Ministry of Higher Education. It also fosters strong connections between Yemeni students abroad and new applicants, celebrates top-performing high school graduates, and offers funded English-language learning opportunities prior to travel. This initiative represents a vital step toward strengthening higher education and promoting sustainable development in Al-Jawf and Marib.
Key Support Activities Implemented in 2024
• Offering advisory support for scholarship applicants, including document preparation and error prevention.
• Following up on accepted students’ procedures with the Ministry of Higher Education (Aden).
• Creating communication channels (WhatsApp groups) linking Yemeni students abroad with new 2024 applicants for experience-sharing.
• Providing English language-learning scholarships through a partnership with Risalati Academy in Marib.
• Supporting high school graduates in registering for competitive exams and understanding admission requirements.
• Coordinating with Al-Jawf authorities to advocate for fair allocation of government scholarships.
• Securing an official support letter from the Al-Jawf Governorate.
• Conducting a field visit to the Ministry of Higher Education in Aden to follow up on scholarship allocations and address student challenges.
Program Impact
As a result of these efforts, the number of students registering for the competitive exam increased from 8 students in 2023 to 11 students in 2024. Additionally, more than 40 students applied for international scholarships for 2025, and no scholarship opportunities were lost due to technical errors during the online application process.
